The origin of the word Fascism: fasces, fascis
The classic symbolism of the ancient Rome fascism was the Fascio littorio, the Roman salut, the use of the letter “V” instead of the “U” and the Roman eagle.
(Simbologia classica dell’antica Roma: esempi ne furono il Fascio littorio, il Saluto romano, l’utilizzo della lettera “V” in luogo della “U” e l’aquila romana.)

Fasces (/ˈfæsiːz/, (Italian: Fasci, Latin pronunciation: [ˈfa.skeːs], a plurale tantum, from the Latin word fascis, meaning “bundle”)[1] is a bound bundle of wooden rods, sometimes including an axe with its blade emerging. The fasces had its origin in the Etruscan civilization, and was passed on to ancient Rome, where it symbolized a magistrate’s power and jurisdiction.
Remark: Personally I do not agree with Wikipedia saying that:
“The image has survived in the modern world as a representation of magisterial or collective power.”
It has still the meaning of Fascism and you can not deny that.
